Town of Granite Quarry North Carolina

Mayor’s Message

The Town of Granite Quarry has been progressing and thriving for more than a century, and we are proud to be home to one of the oldest structures in Rowan County, the historic Old Stone House. As we celebrate 125 years of being a great place to live, Granite Quarry continues to honor its small-town charm while planning boldly for the future.

Our community offers the uniqueness we all love about small towns; walkable sidewalks connecting neighborhoods, schools, and parks to our downtown, as well as access to the Carolina Thread Trail, part of a growing regional network. We remain committed to enhancing our neighborhoods and downtown with high-quality growth, development, and improvements to our parks and trails. This vision is guided by our Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Granite Quarry Downtown Master Plan, Parks & Recreation Master Plan, and Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.

Recently, your Town Council held its Quarterly Strategic Planning Session, where we focused on keeping Granite Quarry’s mission, vision, and goals aligned year-round. Some of the exciting projects and priorities ahead include:

  • Civic Park Improvements, Phase I – breaking ground in 2026
  • Centennial Park trail enhancements
  • Downtown streetscape upgrades and signalization
  • Town Hall remodel and space planning
  • Tourism development projects
  • Sewer and water extensions to support growth
  • Economic development planning, including having a site selected for a full site study through the Duke Energy Site Readiness Program

Our main Administration team: Town Manager, Finance Director, Town Clerk, Office Assistant, and Community Engagement Coordinator, serve as the backbone of town services, working diligently to support residents and help bring Town Council’s goals to life.

We are equally grateful for the dedication of our Public Works team, who keep our town and parks well maintained, and our Fire and Police Departments, who ensure Granite Quarry remains safe. With our Fire Department maintaining an ISO 1 rating and our Police Officers achieving advanced certifications, we are well-positioned to meet the needs of our growing community.

Granite Quarry also celebrates community through events and traditions. Alongside town-hosted favorites such as Arts in the Park, Fish for Fun, Granite Fest, and Christmas at the Lake, the Rowan Museum brings history alive each September with German Fest at the Old Stone House. These celebrations reflect the spirit of connection and pride that make our town special.

As we grow, we are excited to roll out a fresh new Town website to keep residents better informed and engaged. This will be a hub for updates, resources, and opportunities to get involved in shaping our future.

While growth is inevitable, we remain focused on cultivating a strong culture of community. Together, with a “GQ SOLID” commitment, we will continue to shape a future where Granite Quarry thrives while preserving the small-town character that makes us unique.

I, along with the Town Council, look forward to the opportunities ahead and invite you to be part of this journey. Whether by volunteering on one of our boards, attending community events, or sharing ideas, your involvement makes our town stronger.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Granite Quarry,
Mayor Brittany H. Barnhardt
