Granite Quarry Breaks Ground on Historic Renovation of Granite Civic Park

The Town of Granite Quarry officially celebrated the groundbreaking of the next chapter of Granite Civic Park, marking the beginning of a transformative project that will preserve one of the community’s most cherished gathering places while creating new opportunities for future generations.

Originally established in 1950 through the generosity of J.F. Crook and the vision of Granite Quarry citizens, Granite Civic Park has served as the heart of the community for more than 75 years. The park has been home to countless family gatherings, youth sporting events, community festivals, celebrations, and lifelong memories.

The renovation project represents one of the most significant investments in the park’s history and reflects the Town’s ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life while honoring the park’s rich legacy.

Phase One Improvements Include:

• New splash pad
• Modern playground equipment
• Renovated restroom facilities
• Upgraded basketball courts
• Renovated tennis courts
• New pickleball courts
• Improved accessibility and infrastructure throughout the park

Future phases will continue enhancing the park with additional amenities designed to serve residents of all ages for decades to come.

“This project is about much more than construction,” said Mayor Brittany Barnhardt during the groundbreaking ceremony. “It’s about honoring the vision of those who came before us while creating a place where today’s families—and generations yet to come—can gather, play, celebrate, and build memories together.”

The project has been made possible through a combination of state grant funding, local investment, generous private donations, and the dedication of countless individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring the vision to life.

Town Manager – Jason Hord, Public Works Director – Colton Fries, Assistant Public Works Director – Josh Whitley, and numerous employees across every department have invested countless hours coordinating planning, grant administration, design, logistics, and preparing to make this vision a reality.

“This project is a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared vision,” Barnhardt said. “From our elected officials and staff to our funding partners, donors, volunteers, and residents, this park belongs to all of us. Today’s groundbreaking is not simply the beginning of construction—it is the beginning of the next generation of memories that will be made at Granite Civic Park.”

Construction is expected to begin immediately following the groundbreaking, with additional project updates shared throughout the construction process.
