Mayor Barnhardt

The Town of Granite Quarry has been progressing and thriving for over a century and we are proud to be home to one of the oldest structures in Rowan County, The Old Stone House. Celebrating 122 years of being a great place to live, the Town of Granite Quarry is also home to the annual Granite Fest, held at Granite Civic Park the 3rd Saturday of each October.

Our town offers the uniqueness of what we love about small towns. We have many walkable sidewalks connecting parks and schools to our downtown area, as well as connecting to the Carolina Thread Trail – a regional network of connected trails. We are continuously striving to improve our neighborhoods and downtown with high-quality growth and development and enhancements to our parks and trails.  Please reference our Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Granite Quarry Downtown Master Plan, Parks & Recreation Master Plan, and Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.

Our main Admin team, which consists of our Town Manager, Finance Officer, Town Clerk, and Office Assistant, is the backbone to all major town services.  We are very proud and honored to have a very well-trained and highly accredited team working so diligently to assist residents and help the Town Council’s goals and visions come to fruition.

We are proud of and appreciate the hard work of our Public Works Department which keeps the town and parks very well maintained. The Public Works Department is made up of a mixture of full-time and part-time staff who are the team behind limb and leaf pickup and perform a variety of custodial, construction, and maintenance work.

We are very proud of the Granite Quarry Fire and Police Departments for their dedication and service to the town and the safety of our residents.  Our fire department currently holds an ISO 1 ranking and staffs a full-time Captain and Engineer daily as well as a part-time firefighter 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!  Our police department recently recognized several officers for achieving their Advanced Law Enforcement Certificates from the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Standards Division.

Along with the growth in our town and the development of our parks, we have added many programs, family activities, and events that take place throughout the year. These events, overseen by our Events Committee, include Arts in the Park, Fish for Fun, our annual signature event the Granite Fest, and Christmas at the Lake.

While growth is inevitable, we strive to cultivate and maintain a culture of community.  We are committed to accomplishing our strategic vision by remaining “GQ SOLID” in all interactions with each other and the stakeholders of the Town.

I, along with the Town Council, look forward to further growth while we continue to make Granite Quarry a great place to live, work, and visit so everyone can enjoy the benefits of our small town!  If you have any interest in volunteering or serving on any of our boards, we would love to have you!  Please reach out to office staff or refer to our website for more information. Please continue to visit the Town of Granite Quarry’s website (and social media) for updates on what is happening in town!  If you do not find what you are looking for or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out, via email.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Granite Quarry.
