Rich Luhrs | Council Member

Rich Luhrs serves as a Council Member for the Town of Granite Quarry, bringing a combination of executive leadership experience, entrepreneurial work, and long-standing community involvement to his role. He was elected in 2023 and has been a resident of Granite Quarry for 11 years.

Luhrs and his family relocated from New Jersey to central North Carolina in search of a welcoming, community-oriented town, and they found that in Granite Quarry. He notes that what he values most about the community is its warm and giving culture, as well as a strong sense of common-sense decision-making among residents.

Professionally, Luhrs is the owner of Carpe Vinum 121, a restaurant in Salisbury. Prior to his retirement from corporate leadership, he served as a C-level executive in the ground transportation and logistics industry. Luhrs worked for 25 years as a broadcast TV color commentator. His career showcasing extensive experience in boat racing as a racer, builder, and official, reflecting a longtime passion for marine sports and craftsmanship.

Luhrs has remained active in civic and community life. He is involved with the Granite Quarry Chapter of Civitan International and Sacred Heart Church and previously served as Chair of the Granite Quarry Planning Board. His experience with the planning board helped shape his transition into elected office.

He was motivated to run for Town Council by his desire, as former Planning Board Chair, to more directly advance community priorities and support the Mayor and Council in moving initiatives forward. His focus in office includes careful stewardship of taxpayer funds, maintaining a safe and comfortable community, and limiting spending on secondary priorities.

Luhrs’s family consists of his wife Doreen, known affectionately as “The Groomer”, sons Darren, Erik, and Richie, and three grandchildren. Outside of public service and business, he enjoys boat racing, restoration projects, and maintaining his 23-acre property.

He considers serving Granite Quarry both a privilege and a responsibility and is committed to helping guide the town through current and future challenges to ensure a strong and sustainable future.
