Doug Shelton serves as a Council Member for the Town of Granite Quarry and has been a dedicated member of the community for more than four decades. First elected in 2019, he brings both professional experience and a strong personal connection to the town to his role in local government.
Shelton was drawn to Granite Quarry through his wife’s family, who were lifelong residents of the community. Over the past 41 years, he has come to value Granite Quarry’s small-town charm, which continues to shape his commitment to public service.
Professionally, Shelton is retired after a career as a manufacturing accountant, where he held leadership positions for the majority of his working life. His experience in financial management and leadership has provided a strong foundation for his work on the Town Council, particularly in areas related to budgeting and fiscal oversight.
Shelton remains active in the community through his involvement with the Granite Quarry Chapter of Civitan International and is a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Earlier in life, he also contributed to local youth programs by coaching youth soccer, reflecting his long-standing commitment to community.
He was encouraged to run for office by fellow Granite Quarry residents and has since focused on influencing the town’s growth while preserving its character. His priorities include guiding responsible development, maintaining Granite Quarry’s small-town charm, and promoting fiscal responsibility in town operations.
Shelton and his wife, Linda, have been married for 54 years. Together they have five children (four living) and nine grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys watching classic films and traveling with his wife throughout the United States.
He believes serving the residents of Granite Quarry is important in order to help preserve what makes the town a great place to live, both now and for future generations.
